Ghillie Suit Question

Hey, before i start to begin making my ghillie suit, i have one question that has been bugging me for ages.

You make a military style ghillie, and its all done. You go to put on your Webbing, or whatever you use, but its over top of the ghillie. Do you just cover the straps with the stands? Or do you put it under, and some how go into your ghillie every time to grab mags, BB's, whatever?

Any light to my questions would be appreciated.

AFAIK, snipers don't wear any form of webbing. One mag for a backup sidearm and possibly a spare in a pocket or whatever, any extra mags for the rifle you need either in pockets or a drag bag/something similar. But I'm no expert in this subject, this is just what I've seen from videos on youtube/reviews/FAQS online.

On my suit I cut slots into the back so the straps of my chest rig sit underneath the jacket.

I wore a basic CamelBak under the ghillie last time for hydration. Otherwise it was only first line (belt, pistol, magazines, & radio) and my rifle.

I've worn my chest rig under my ghillie, but the jacket was open in the front. Is too bulky to do any crawling. This is a better set up, on a belt with a holster and a couple mag pouches. My belt is on my ghillie pants (SCUBA weight belt for stiffness, and I also have suspenders) with a khaki waist pack on for extra mags, face cam paint, etc.

Ohhh, okay. I figured out i only need a belt, mounted with pistol mags, 3 APs mags, radio, and my pistol, so it will be under the jacket.

Makes alot more sense now, as i was going on that everyone wore chest rigs. Silly me lol

Move the chest and lower pockets elsewhere on the BDU jacket, gets them off your chest (so you can attach canvas if you want) but also makes lying down more comfortable. I moved my lower pockets to the sides of my hip, and the chest pockets I sewed onto my left arm. I also cut the front buttons off the BDU and replaced with a strip of velcro. So you can use the pockets for your APS2 mags without having to shift around too much when it comes time to reload.

Hmm, interesting indeed.

I was thinking of putting my Mags into the custom APS pouch from Amos, on my hip, or back of the belt. So i dont think ill need the pockets, but i will reinforce the BDU's there.

That works, just picture lying on your stomach and having to reload. Roll over, lift up your jacket bottom, pull a mag out (hopefully not closed with velcro), put your spent mag somewhere............. you know, go through the motions in your mind of everything involved in reloading. Same as having to grab your pistol in a hurry.

I keep my spare mag in the buttstock pouch on my rifle, so it's easy to reload with minimum motion.

Havent been able to find a buttstock pouch, but if i do locally, ill do that. Im just waiting for my mags, Firefly rubbers, and bolt handle.

Only thing left would be the outer barrel, receiver, and stock! Im getting excited haha, been a long wait.

I know there are a few types of pouches available, one I have is made by Eagle, but there are some clones for sale from retailers on here like Huang (I think) and one place who's name escapes me (Edmonton I think, airsoft retailer).

Here's the one I have, in OD, but mine is the shotgun shell pouch, but I don't use the elastic loops for anything so it doesn't matter.

EDIT: Here ya go, Seals Action Gear has the Eagle stock pouch for $43.

You got it wrong.

---

I use an old CF webbing under my ghillie suite. I also have a molle panels underarms setup to carry my MK23 and it's extra mags. It's very low profile.

I keep the top and bottom of my ghillie shirt open. It's only buttonned in the middle. That way I can ventilate a little more and access my gear under it.

The way my pouchs are setup, it's very easy to crawl on my belly and very confortable.

The sniper belt Stalker posted look excellent. I'd get one too.

This is what I'd get to replace my old CF webbing.

I'll get an RRV soon. I will also try the RRV setup without plates.

I personally run dual leg rigs with mine. SERPA with my P226 on 1 leg, and a triple pistol mag panel on my other leg for my L96 mags. I do this when I'm only wearing my top. When I'm wearing top and bottom it's all on a MOLLE belt.
