Slings

Im about to get a new sling for my M4.
Ive read reviews and such on lots of different types of slings, but wanted to get some more insight and opinions from players on here.
Mainly looking at some 3 point and 2 point slings, as well as the 2 point bungee sling.
Any reviews on those or any other suggestions?

1 bungee point sling is the business - easy to drop out from your hand to draw your secondary. But expect your gun to kiss the dirt often if you are fighting over steep terrain and need to be hands free.

Hate 2 point slings with a passion: they're more of a carry sling than a tactical sling.

3 point sling is a good middle point between 1 point slings and 2 point slings.

Pantac makes good slings of all the above.

Most ideal sling for an M4 for me is the Magpul MS2 sling - switch interchangeably betwen 1 point and 2 point. But pricey.

Obviously you haven't used a VCAS (Vickers Combat Sling) or VTAC (Viking Tactical Sling)

Both slings are made for combat and enhance your ability to use your weapon.

3 point slings are obsolete and a waist of nylon.

It doesn't matter too much with airsoft, however with actual firearms the extra nylon strap gets hung up on webbing, gets in the way of immediate action drills and has no real use unless it's adjustable. The adjustable ones are almost always crap and break or sieze.

1 bungee point sling is the business

Single point slings are fine for short firearms. They are ok for things like patrols and gate guard when you are going to be holding the firearm most of the time.

The problem with single point slings is the lack of muzzle control once you let go. You also can't move the firearm around to your back as easily if you need to go hands on.



To give you an idea, the VCAS sling is used, and issued to: RCMP, a couple Nuclear Security Teams, Various Canadian Forces Units, a few Canadian LE Tac Teams, Marines, a few Stryker Brigades, US SF, other US government agencies, and a couple Europian SF units.

The biggest problem with the Vickers sling is you wind up wanting to get a few of them after you've used it. It's caveman simple.

I use a 1-point bungee sling and it rocks. Simple, no mess. I use it for my AK, my MP5K-PDW and my shotgun. Very versatile.

If you are left-handed be careful with 3-points sling, they are hard (impossible) to adjust from what I heard (or are not leftie-friendly).

3 points are junk

For 2 points, gotta go with the Vickers. I also have a BFG UDC sling. I wouldn't go with a bungee; due to that fact that if it gets caught up on something.. gets under pressure an once it "uncatches" from whatever its stuck in it's gonna fly back into your body.

I've also gone with the simple paracord/550 cord an d-ring 1 point sling; ended up using that a fair bit on tour since I found my Vickers sling got in the way a bit since I was carring a radio/backpack an the sling ended up getting caught in the handset, etc.

I love my BFG 1 point sling so much. I had the one that attach to my vest and has an adapter coming to the front with female buckle. Male buckle attach to my AEG, it's like quick attach and secure very well.

Like Farmboy said, one point sling is good for short combat or patrol since you can't swing your gun to the back to free the hands for other purpose.

As my #1 choice and having first-hand experience with it, I'd have to go with a Magpul MS2 sling - easily and quickly converts from 1pt to 2pt provided your rifle has appropriate sling mounts and is surprisingly comfortable to wear. However, the MS2 is also ridiculously difficult to obtain here in Canada so it may not be worth the effort in the end as there are other suitable options --see choice 2 below.

Or...

As a very close second choice to the MS2, I'd highly recommend the 2pt VCAS from BFG. Easy to find as it's pretty much always in-stock/available from oneshottactical.com at a reasonable price.

This comment left me scratching my head.

The padded 2 point sling you show me doesn't look that much different than the generic 2 point sling that I have used before (and now reside in a dark corner somwhere). What makes it good?

That's the beauty of it, it's pretty much exactly like those old slings. They're solid, simple and they work.

The new trick is a sliding buckle that lets you adjust the sling length if you have to change to your weak side or even just hang your weapon out of the way.

One quick and simple pull with your weak hand to loosen or tighten the sling. Thats it, no pull the pin and have what seems to be ten feet of nylon spaghetti at your feet.

When you use it a light goes on in your head and you wonder why no one came up with this before.

Another +1 for the BFG Vickers 2-point. I've been using one for the last two seasons and have used it on an M4 and an M16. It's ridiculously easy to adjust, and I often find myself doing so for optimal comfort just because it *is* that easy.
