It doesn't help matters that the AK5 is such a fluid design - constantly evolving. That's no surprise given the Swedish Forsvarsmakten has no previous combat experience, and are just learning in Afghanistan what works and what doesn't.

I don't think the AK5 will have another major overhaul, it has been in service since 1984 so I think when the FvM need a weapon overhaul, they'll probably switch guns to something completely different. But, considering the AK5C has only been issued since 2006-07, they're gonna squeeze as much use out of it as possible, so I don't see it disappearing anytime soon...

I think the AK5C will probably be in service, until about 2020, the MARKUS (Future Infantry Program, similar to IdZ and Future Force Warrior) soldier of 2015 is depicted with an AK5C...

I read somewhere that it cost the Swedish military more to upgrade the AK5 to C standard than it would be to completely switch to the G36, I'm not sure how true this is though...

I could see that being the case.

That folding/collapsible stock on the AK5C looks like it must be expensive to manufacture - certainly when compared to something simpler, like the injection molded IdZ stock planned for future G36s. The Aimpoint scope probably accounts for a good chunk of change too. Any parts specific to the AK5 would have to carry a higher price tag, given the limited production numbers.

BTW, I have seen photos of Swedish SSG operators using various models of the G36, and I understand all Swedish troops get familiarization training with M16s and AK-74s.

Yes, I've seen the G36 stock, it looks... Weird I suppose the best description for it would be. I have also seen the SSG photos. I also have a German loadout with a G36A2:

When I start seeing Germans in the field with the new stock and things as standard, I'll change my G36 accordingly...

I don't know the specifics, but I have seen the Swedish on exercise abroad carrying AKs, the Finnish RK95 and the M4 when they go out with the Americans.

Yeah, the parts would probably be rather expensive, the civilian price for the Aimpoint is between $400 to $600...

I am partly the reason for this, I have regular contact with G&G and I have been sending them a lot of information to assist their RD team.

The replica is actually in the pipe!

IIRC KWC is making an NBB CO2 one. TOO MANY ACRONYMS IN THAT SENTENCE.

Hi everyone, sorry to necro this thread.
As everyone knows, this petition was a success and during this time, guay2 have started to produce the AK5C to many Swedish milsimers delight (including myself, owns two copies of it atm!)
Now me and my friend have started a own petition for the aimpoint CS red dot sight since there is'nt any substitute or replica for that sight and it's necessary to complete an Swedish soldier impression, so if as many as possibly could sign this I and a lot of milsimers would be grateful!

Sincerely
