Question about M203 Shells
Hey everyone, my question is how are they specifically set off inside the M203? Does the M203 have a pin that hits the back, and hits the "trigger" that release the gas? Or is it more complicated.

Quite simple, but hard to type out. A striking pin in the launcher moves the valve forward (which is held in place by a spring), allowing it to vent its gas. Ball bearing in the valve allow some pressure to be accumulated before letting go to make the movement more snappy.
Quite simple really, but you really need to hunt down a disassembly video on youtube for more info. |

Perfect, because im looking into making an M-79 for myself. Anyone know where to get a trigger assembly for cheap that will set off a shell?

Your finger basically...
You only need a few pounds of pressure, so anything poking it in the back will do. I've set off 'nades closing my m203 to fast or simply dropping them or setting them on a table too rough. |

make yourself a trigger/pin assemly in some plastic or metal if you have the tools for it...
basically something like this ![]() i'm thinking of doing a double barrel 40mm farmer shotgun, would be awesome!

That's the problem, i dont know where to start. Anyone got a guide, or a video link to build your own? I just want something that when i pull the trigger, the pin slams the shell trigger. Even if i have to reset it by hand, not a big deal. Hopefully cheap too

sorry for the bump, but lemega, you've got me interested. So basically just a pivoting pin, that if i pull hard enough it will set if off? Sounds ingenious.

as surebet said only a few pounds is required to set off a 40mm nade so with a pivoting pin like that, trigger pull should be more easy if you place the pivot at the right place... do some layouts on cardboards.

And if it doesn't go off, just pull harder? :P

lol yes and add a small return spring *tappet plate spring* to the assembly so the trigger is always in the "to be pulled" state
