What I was mentioning in the PM was the following:
- Field strip the gun,
- Pop the blowback chamber out of the gun (I don't recall if this requires removing a screw from the underside of the blowback chamber, but I know it doesn't require removing a screw from the rear sight, so don't bother doing that)
- Take out the blowback chamber
- Taking the blowback chamber out of the plastic slide requires you to flex the slide open where the blowback chamber will come out. Marui designed it with a 'lip' to hold the blowback chamber "up" inside the slide.
- take out the front sight, and the rear sight. It slides out to the side (I believe it only comes out in one direction...)
- take the blowback chamber and the rear sight and see how they 'fit' together while they're outside the gun. Notice the circular "notch" on the blowback chamber, and the cirular bump on the sight. They're a VERY tight fit. Keep this in mind
- Put the front sight in the new slide (so you don't forget)
- Slide the rear sight into the new slide (paying attention to whichever direction worked best coming out of the plastic slide)
- The blowback chamber should just slide up inside the new slide. (there's grooves for it, and you'll see where it's supposed to fit)
Might be a tight fit, require some tapping, or some working back and forth to clear out any excess metal. (shouldn't be too bad though)
- NOW: If you find that the blowback chamber WILL NOT QUITE SEAT FLUSH with the slide... You're not crazy! And it IS supposed to fit very nicely!
Don't leave it this way, or try too hard to put it on the gun now. Forcing things never works, and I got my slide stuck on my hi-capa so badly when I had it that I thought I destroyed the gun.
- Recall the notch/bump on the chamber/rear sight. If those two pieces are misaligned at all, it will cause the blowback chamber to not seat right at all.
My solution was to grind the bump off, but if you can sand it a bit, or re-align the parts so they fit, that is probably better.
After that, you're at the stage where you've got to rack the slide a bunch to get it to work smoothly.
I did this with a PGC slide, for anyone who's curious, and it was a bit frustrating, but once it was done and I worked the slide till it was smooth, it was an awesome addition to my gun. I also found that with a Tanio Koba piston cup and a recoil spring, the cyclic rate was really not noticeably affected. The Hi-Capa is an amazing gun.
hope all that helps.
