M249 feedback

Ok, folks I ranged my A&K M249 today. I had a 110 feet to shoot with and with .25 Bastards I was able to hit a pie plate size target.

Relatively how is this? Anyone else have an LMG, how are my results compared to yours?

What kind of range should I be getting out of it?

My old one stock had about the same range, doing the hopup mod helped a bit but it never really got past 120-130

After throwing in a bunch of upgrades I was hitting about 150+ and hitting about a torso sized target no problem

Hop up mod? The one crunchmeister made?

What I did to mine when I still have my CA M249 (OEM for the A&K) is did the Hop up mod (yes even on the CA it sucks) swap the rubber to a modify clear and add a longer Madbull inner barrel, since my was a full length version I have the 509mm barrel it will reach up to under the tip of the muzzle and along the inner barrel I rolled up some hockey tape to act as a stabilizer. result was a estimate range increase and accuracy to a 4" grouping at 160ft - 170ft

On a different but related note, I used to own a A&K M60 which has gone through the same modification and it increased the range and accuracy from the original set up significantly and the new owner has nothing but good things to say about it.

I swapped the hop up to a CA M249 hop up unit change the nub to a harder piece and swap the rubber to a modify clear, teh original hop up for the A&K M60 are virtually non existence so by swapping the nub (in my case was a left over plastic from a modelling kit) and swapping the OEM to a CA (better construction and seal) the OEM A&K is slightly larger and a wee bit short so there is a leak from the nozzle to the hop unit the CA version is a tighter fit. If you don't want to swap the whole unit Crunchmiester have a thread here that shows you how to mod the nub to give it a bit more bite.

Here it is http://www.airsoftcanada.com/showthread.php?t=59871

Got my Echo 1 to hit a Man size target at a 180 feet after upgrades using .25g bb's.
CA hop up unit with guarder hopup rubber but used the CA plastic nub.
original barrel but cut shorter
Modify M4 gearbox internals
Shoot at 350fps(.2's)
Only problem of the built was that i had to file a couple of thousand of an inch off the nozzle to make it feed.

A&K M60 with an upgraded 680mm tightbore and new CA hopup rubber and nubbin ranges 200+ with .25. Its a heavy bugger to lug around, but man the range and consistent shots make it worth it.

Ive gamed a 249 as well, and I got more than 110 feet out of her. Id check your hop up rubber and even the compression, you should be getting better range and accuracy than that.

I agree, if you're not getting a lot more than 100' you're not living right.

ThunderCactus May 7th, 2012 20:51

I can hit people at around 260ish feet firing from the shoulder with mine
And with less than 100 rounds lol

yours is with 680mm madbull tightbore unless you swapped it for a shorter ones, my Ino use the 590mm need to get into your range for the final hop up test
