Modular Gear sets

Has anyone used a Modular gear set and are they any good?http://www.airsoftparts.ca/store2/im...ar-gearset.jpg

Yes people have.

And yes, they've gotten a very good review so far.

Qlong April 20th, 2008 00:25

A down side to them is that it is one piece, if one of the gears happen to go to shit, you are going to replace the entire set.

Crunchmeister April 20th, 2008 00:28

I had them in my TM mechbox that I had in my C8. The gears were awesome. They're reinforced gears and feel heavy and tough. The likelihood of them every failing unexpectedly is pretty slim. They're easy to install and require no shimming. They're shimmed perfectly right out of the package.

In terms of actual performance, they run very smooth and were quieter than my stock TM gears. The gun sounded much less 'mechanical' with these gears. I had the torque-up set, and that increased the shot response time on the gun significantly. If my mecbox wouldn't have cracked, I probably would have kept using these gears. Too bad they don't fit in my CA mechbox, of I'd probably have a set in there too.

From what I' v been told you can only run these in old gear box, that they don't fit the newer beefed up versions. Can't say for sure as I have not tryed them, but when I was looking at them thats what I was told?

Skruface April 20th, 2008 01:35

I have 2 sets. They ONLY fit non-reinforced mechboxes (ie stock TM or JG boxes) and a few others. They will not fit CA, ICS, Systema, or Guarder boxes.

There is a more detailed explanation I wrote for filairsoft.com here:

http://www.filairsoft.com/forum/show...t=24873&page=3

And as Crunch said, they are excellent.

He's correct. They only fit standard mechboxes. I had bought 2 sets, hoping to somehow fit one into my CA gearbox, but no luck there, so I had to sell the other set. But in a compatible box, you won't find a smoother, quiets gear set to use except if you went to helical gears. And you won't find anything easier and quickler to install.

lokisama April 25th, 2008 21:21

I've had one in my CA SL8-2 Ver3 mechbox.
What happens when you install them in a CA mechbox is that you omit the bushings on the bevel gear. That way the gearset still sits securely with bushings on sector gear and spur gear.
It's in the manual. so this isn't some half assed workaround.

+1 for being smooth and quiet. I'd use these gears again if I bought another gun.

SEALs April 25th, 2008 21:29

anyone knows if they fit a G&G box?

Caped_crusadar April 26th, 2008 23:42

Will they fit into a Prowin 8mm gearbox?

spacing wise, excluding the 6mm to 8mm problem

CDN_Stalker April 27th, 2008 01:21

I installed one into a JG AK mechbox and it retarded easy. Dual thumbs up for this gear set from me for now.

Splashx April 27th, 2008 19:30

Modular helical gear set would be great!
P.S. I bought one of Crunchmeister Modify gearset torque-up and they're great!

Saint_blackhand April 28th, 2008 16:55

If you are going to buy anything for you gun, I would say that these gears are the thing to buy. I use a set in a TM gearbox, with a m110 spring and it is amazing. Just buy them, they are GREAT!

It is a shame that they are too big for any reenforced gearbox.

Seriously go buy them!

Qlong April 28th, 2008 17:16

Hmm... I was thinking of picking up a set of systema helicals but now it seems like these are somewhat in close comparison.

Has anyone compared these two?

Helicals are stronger and quieter

but these are easy to install, and require no extra shimming

just got mine today! :)

mech box

I installed mine in a reinforced King Arms 7mm box for Betsy. They fit nice. there was some sanding and some slight modding but they sure work nice. I love the fact when you need to check or clean the box they make life so much easier.

LyquidFyre May 1st, 2008 15:24

Bought Crunch's extra BNIB set of the torque up gears and must say the shot response went up quite nicely. Noise factor is about the same, I'm running a Ver.3 AUG so I dunno if it's the natural amplifying characteristics of the buttstock or what.

One of the smaller but really awesome improvements in this gearset is the E-clamp/clasp whatever that keeps the spring on the anti-reversal latch from popping up when you put the mechbox back together. Also nice is the ability to release the spring tension with a small screw driver by twisting the anti-reversal from the outside.

ok I decided to get a set. Where did you guys buy them? PM me if you are selling a set of high speed for ver 3 mechbox.

I have em in my kraken , so far there great, I got the Hight torque set up. Be careful with the hi speed make sure you have a quality piston and make sure your getting good engagement from the sector gear with the piston. My setup with all my guns is a Titanuim full steel rack piston with a ground out 2 teeth.

yeah thanks I too was thinking about how accurately a fixed set would engage my piston and motor bevel gear (well the motor gear meshing I can adjust slightly). Mixing and matching parts is not a good idea sometimes. I'm very likely going to pull the trigger on Jugglez modify gearset group order and get the TOP GEAR set with the Ultra Piston (7 metal teeth). Damm though the closing date is far off so the gearset would probably reach me in mid/late June sometime. http://airsoftcanada.com/showthread.php?t=58124

Skruface thanks for that detailed info you posted at filairsoft.

I cant comment on the modify piston because I never used one however I would rather have a all steel rack piston instead and just do a little work with a grinder. I say get the gears on special and grab a deepfire titainuim piston.

Well that looks good to me. Full steel rack coated in titanium and I'll have the gears by the end of next week. yep ordered. thanks pawscal.
