I think the TTAC is going to be a perspective on our side, as opposed to the soccer moms side of the debate.

Perhaps it is "our" side of the story and Brian let them in to show them just who and what airsoft is??? Maybe.

my only issue is no subtitle for me to read...

When they were filming us running around they were a pretty nice group of people. That lady doing the report better not give us any bad rep!!!

IMO I think they're mixing up airsofters with people buying pellet guns that can do actual bodily harm.

ex February 21st, 2009 14:29

It would seem the focus of the report is on the guns themselves and not airsofters per say. Hopefully the experience they had at TTAC will help to temper the results of the reporters findings. But I doubt it really, in todays Canada guns are bad, people that use guns are even worse. Sad state but that's the crap we have to deal with.

It was a fun night, from what I saw she seemed to have a positive stance when asking questions from some of us there. Definitely not the no holds bar questioning she did to that Tadgear rep

What a pathetic country we live in. If we had carry laws, do you think people would be concerned about being held up by toys? Heh...

leebee February 21st, 2009 15:16

must have been a slow news day for them, no shootings or killings by 'real guns'. find the next best thing and sensationalize it right through the roof. the general public has no idea of the differences between a real or toy/fake/replica and they really dont care. to them, 'it was a big black gun!'

ever notice how most canadian news programs will show a hand gun or perceived fully automatic weapon as the graphic to begin their news snipit? when you watch, turns out it was a hunting rifle or shotgun. we all know how easily concealable and illegal they are to own!

if they want to practice pseudo and inaccurate journalism, i hear news of the world and other gossip rags are looking for experienced reporters. having said all that, i will watch the program and give it a chance to explain their point of view. more to follow.

ps

having missed the above postings while watching the proffered link, dont think for a minute that they wont turn that smile and supportive dialogue into a pretzel to make their point! how do you think they managed to get in the door in the first place? certainly not by saying 'we are doing a piece on the toy/fake/replica gun problem thats behind the rash of robberies lately.' in some respects, we are as ignorant about what is going on in our country as our neighbours to the south are. cant trust elected officials nor the media, its the mushroom theory in all its glory. 'keep them in the dark and feed them plenty of bullshit.'

alright, theres no need to panic... we just have to wait and see how the actual program turns out. but there is a slight chance we could be boned.

Conker February 21st, 2009 15:27

Before making any further remark or assumption, I'll wait for the full report as sysnopsis are 99% of the time made to introduce the controversy, then to explane the facts in the reports.
Especially since they went to TTAC3, I won't be that negative from the start. Just wait and see.

The problem is, without the guns where do airsoft goes? Nowhere. Sure airsoft isn't all about guns, but they're still a needed "tool" for the hobby.

arcanuck February 21st, 2009 15:27

I was going to make a post about this but I figured it would be closed.

Um...yes.

Even in the States where the majority of states allow carry permits airsoft guns still need to have 1/4" of the tip blaze orange and no real trades allowed (according to customs, easy enough to get guns with trades in.) They don't really check them once they're in, just as they pass through customs, so painting the orange with black is common but officially they are breaking the law.

As with Comache I will withhold judgement till I see it.

Yannos February 21st, 2009 16:44

I can't find the damn video.

I can't watch it since I'll be working when its aired, can someone record it or something ?

EDIT: never mind I found it!

It's CBC, given their track record..expect the worse and there will be no surprises. Anything less then the worse is a boon for us.

Don't put any faith in CBC folks.....seriously......they are not on our side.

aznpos531 February 21st, 2009 17:55

the preview made it looked like it would take on a negative tone. also judging by how they they ripped apart the other stories, i think it's pair to say that this is more negative pubilicty for airsoft as well as airgun enthusiasts.
on a similar note, just because they when to TTAC doesn't mean that it won't be negative. they can still arrange what they've recorded (which, again, based on their previous episodes, will include pointed questions) in a way that will portray airsofting in a bad light. one can only hope that they stay unbiased and objective.
